Mit dem ersten Newsletter des Jahres darf ich mich für alle Weihnachts- und Neujahrsgrüße bedanken und wünsche allen Leserinnen und Lesern ein erfolgreiches Sommersemester. Ein Erfolgsmodell ist unser DRS Postdoc Fellowship Programm, auf welches sich Nachwuchswissenschaftler ab sofort bewerben können, um in den besten Projekten der Freien Universität eigene Ideen zu verwirklichen. The first newsletter in this year is a good opportunity to thank for all the Christmas and New Year greetings and to wish all the readers a successful summer term. Call for Application: PhD and Guest Researchers at the GS Transnational Studies

Deadline: January 31 2015, Berlin

The Berlin Graduate School for Transnational Studies (BTS) is a cooperative project of three outstanding scientific institutes and institutions: Freie Universität Berlin, the Hertie School of Governance, and the Social Science Research Center Berlin. BTS provides a distinctive platform for ambitious, innovative, and cutting-edge research in transnational and international relations. The programme is strategically placed at the intersection of political science, economics, history, law, and sociology, where the most exciting changes and debates in an era of globalisation and fragmentation take place.

The BTS accepts new PhD candidates and guest researchers in a number of different categories. Master’s graduates are eligible to apply for the PhD programme after completing a university master’s (postgraduate) degree in political science, international relations, sociology, economics, law, or a related discipline. Applications by PhD candidates must be completed by the deadline; guest researchers can submit applications throughout the year.

Joint Berlin-Jerusalem Post-Doctoral Fellowship Program

Deadline: January 31 2015, Berlin and Jerusalem

The Joint Berlin-Jerusalem Post-Doctoral Fellowship Program aims to promote research cooperation as a career track to leverage synergies between Freie Universität Berlin and The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The two universities establish a joint Post-Doctoral Fellowship scheme with competitively awarded grants to foster the career development of young researchers at a leading international research university. The goal of this initiative is to pool resources and attract highly promising postdoctoral researchers to the combined strengths of two renowned research universities working in partnership. Two (2) Joint Post-Doctoral Fellowships are offered for highly qualified, early career post-doctoral researchers. Each fellowship is to be awarded for 24 months, starting on October 1, 2015, and consists of two phases: Phase 1: 12 months of research at Freie Universität Berlin; Phase 2: 12 months of research at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (or vice versa).

The call is open to all disciplines, thematic or subject areas that exist at both universities or are complementary. The Fellowship applicant must identify a team of experienced researchers at both universities, contact the prospective hosts directly and include an endorsement letter from each of these two potential principal supervisors in the application.

Doctoral Grants and Postdoctoral Positions at the GS of North American Studies

Deadline: January 31 and February 28 2015, Berlin

The Graduate School of North American Studies invites applications for 10 Doctoral Grants and 4 Postdoctoral Positions (E13, 75%) starting October 1st, 2015. The Graduate School of the John F. Kennedy-Institute for North American Studies at Freie Universität invites applications for the academic year 2015/2016. The School‘s program is interdisciplinary in its approach and focuses on the social, economic and cultural changes impacting the United States and Canada at the beginning of the 21st century. Special attention is given to the crisis-prone transformations running through American society today. Areas of emphasis include domestic and foreign policy, economic development, ethnic identity and relations, as well as recent transformations in media, art, literature, culture, and religion. The language of instruction is English.

Applicants interested in pursuing a doctoral or postdoctoral research project with an emphasis in North American Studies must have a completed degree (Master or equivalent/Doctorate) with above average marks in one of the following disciplines or closely related academic programs: American Cultural Studies, American Literature, History, Political Science, Sociology, and Economics, and are expected to submit an outline of their doctoral/postdoctoral research project.

Europäische Journalisten-Fellowships 2015/2016

Bewerbungsfrist: 28. Februar 2015, Berlin

Das Internationale Journalisten-Kolleg der Freien Universität Berlin schreibt ab Dezember 2015 den 17. Jahrgang der Europäischen Journalisten-Fellowships 2015/2016 aus. Das Programm (Oktober 2015 - Juli 2016) ermöglicht den Stipendiaten das Netzwerken mit anderen Journalisten aus Ost- und West-Europa und den Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika. Die Fellows haben die Möglichkeit in den zwei Semestern fern vom eigenen Arbeitsplatz an der Freien Universität Berlin ihren Horizont zu erweitern, während sie ein journalistisch-wissenschaftliches Projekt bearbeiten.

Seit dem Jahrgang 2012-2013 wird beim EJF-Programm jährlich ein Stipendium in Kooperation mit dem Europäischen Journalismus-Observatorium (EJO) ausgeschrieben. Dieses Stipendium besitzt einen themenspezifischen Fokus: Es ist zum einen darauf ausgerichtet, die aktuellen Entwicklungen der Journalismusforschung in Deutschland und zum anderen die sich schnell wandelnde Landschaft von Journalismus und Medien in Berlin zu beobachten.

PhD Positions in Computational Biology

Deadline: March 1 2015, Berlin

The International Max Planck Research School for Computational Biology and Scientific Computing (IMPRS-CBSC) is embedded in a variety of scientific groups working at the interface of life sciences (molecular bio­logy, genome research) and formal sciences (mathematics, computer science). Its research focus is on the mathematical and computational side of research in sequence analysis, theoretical structural biology, computational chemistry and drug design, molecular evo­lution, genome analysis, and data analysis methods in functional genomics.

The PhD program is designed as a 3-year program starting in September 2015 for students who already hold a Master's degree. Scientific research in the program is accompanied by a training and teaching program in English with the main focus on formal sciences. Students shall obtain the ability to independently conduct scientific research in the fields of computational biology and scientific computing. This will be achieved by a combination of course work and students doing research on their PhD project with renowned scientists and learning directly from them.

20 Incoming Postdoc Fellowships

Deadline: March 13 2015, Berlin

The “Postdoc International” POINT research fellowship program – co-financed by the German Excellence Initiative and the Marie Curie Program of the European Commission – provides funding for outstanding postdoctoral researchers from all disciplines to conduct their own research project at Freie Universität Berlin. The POINT program was designed by Dahlem Research School (DRS) at Freie Universität Berlin to promote the further academic career development through research funding, a tailored qualification program and the opportunity to develop teaching and leadership skills. It also provides essential professional guidance on preparing grant proposals to support POINT fellows in obtaining funding for follow-up research projects at Freie Universität Berlin.

Starting in November 2015, each research fellowship will be awarded for 18 months. The call is open to experienced researchers of all disciplines and all nationalities who: hold a doctoral degree (the dissertation must be submitted), completed their doctoral degree no longer than 6 years before the deadline, and have not resided in Germany for longer than 12 months during the last 36 months. Applicants have to submit a project plan based around the research fields/key topics of the participating Excellence Projects or Focus Areas.

Forscher-Alumni-Programm für ehemalige Gastforscher der Freien Universität

Als Forscher-Alumni werden internationale Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler bezeichnet, die in der Vergangenheit an der Freien Universität zu Gast waren und nun ihre wissenschaftliche Karriere im Ausland fortsetzen. Mit dem Forscher-Alumni-Programm möchte die Freie Universität diese ehemaligen Gastwissenschaftlerinnen und Gastwissenschaftler einbinden und internationale wissenschaftliche Netzwerke stärken.

Im Sinne der nachhaltigen Förderungen dieser Kooperationen ist die Einbeziehung von Nachwuchswissenschaftlerinnen und Nachwuchswissenschaftlern aus dem Arbeitsumfeld der Forscher-Alumni und Gastgeber an der Freien Universität ein zentrales Element.

MA Visual and Media Anthropology

Deadline: April 30 2015, online/Berlin

The Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology (Department of Political and Social Sciences) at Freie Universität Berlin is offering an innovative continuing education Master's (M.A.) program in Visual and Media Anthropology. 

The two-year, full-time Master's program comprises 120 ECTS. It is an advanced graduate degree program educating both researchers and media professionals (you need to proof one year job experience in a professional field). The language of instruction is English. It is a web-based E-learning M.A. program with in-house workshops in blocks (2 weeks twice a year). The program is highly international. Our students are coming from countries all over the world.

Семинар "Модуларизация образовательных пограмм"

Дата: 9-го февраля 2015 г., МГПУ Москва

9 февраля 2015 года состоится Международный практический семинар «Реализация кредитно-модульной системы образования в вузе», которая проводится кафедрой немецкого языка и современных технологий обучения Института иностранных языков МГПУ при поддержке Департамента образования города Москвы.

Целью семинара является ознакомление преподавателей российских вузов с опытом внедрения и реализации кредитной системы зачетов и модульного принципа организации образовательных программ в образовании Германии - страны, которая является одним из инициаторов данных реформ. Представитель Freie Universität Berlin в Москве, Тобиас Стюдеманн, выступить с докладом по теме "Реализация модульной системы в обучении по международным программам с получением двойного диплома. Опыт из практики Freie Universität Berlin".

Информационное мероприятие в Высшей школе экономики в Москве

Через неделю состоится информационное мероприятие Freie Universität Berlin в Высшей школе экономики (ВШЭ) в Москве. Приглашаются студенты и молодые ученые всех специальностей со знанием немецкого и английского языков, заинтересованные в учебе и/или научной стажировке во Freie Universität Berlin. Тобиас Стюдеманн, представитель Freie Universität Berlin в Москве, представит учебные программы и аспирантуру в Германии, включая конкретные программы Freie Universität Berlin, и даст ответы на практические вопросы об образовательных программах и международной научной карьере.

Международный семинар-практикум «Интернационализация высшего образования»

Дата: 22-го и 23-го апреля 2015 г., Тюмень

В Международном семинаре–практикуме «Интернационализация высшего образования – процессы и инструменты развития», который организуется Тюменским государственным нефтегазовым университетом речь пойдет о основных тенденциях развития высшего образования и какие ответы вузы различных стран найдут не эти изменения. В рамках семинара будут рассмотрены вопросы процессов интернационализации университета как инструмент роста, выработка стратегии интернационализации на долгосрочную перспективу и инструменты ее внедрения и оценки, опыт привлечения в университет иностранных студентов и молодых ученых.

Тобиас Стюдеманн, представитель Freie Universität Berlin, расскажет на примере одного из ведущих немецких вузов о направлении сотрудничества России и Германии в сфере высшего образования и науки, об опыте создания и организации работы зарубежных представительств университета, а также о реализации программ двойного дипломирования, экспорте образовательных услуг, включая международные аспирантские школы. Планируется и участие представителей других немецких организаций.

Международная научная конференция молодых ученых, аспирантов и студентов «Перспектива - 2015»

Дата: 24-27 апреля 2015 г., КБР, п. Эльбрус

Объединенный совет студенческих организаций КБГУ наряду с другими организует международную научную конференцию «Перспектива - 2015». На конференцию, которая пройдет на базе Эльбрусского научно-учебного комплекса КБГУ, приглашаются молодые ученые, аспиранты и студенты. В мероприятии примет участие Тобиас Стюдеманн, представитель Freie Universität Berlin. В его презентации будут представлены аспирантские и магистерские программы в Freie Universität Berlin и даны ответы на практические вопросы об образовательных программах и международной научной карьере.

А не стажироваться ли в Freie Universität …

Многим хорошо известны программы немецких фондов, предлагающие стипендии для обучения или прохождения научной стажировки заребужом, в том числе в Freie Universität Berlin. Но существуют и российские программы поддержки, с помощью которых можно поехать. Одна из таких программ - стипендии Президента Российской Федерации для обучающихся за рубежом за счет бюджета. В рамках всероссийского открытого конкурса для назначения стипендий на 2015/16 учебный год можно поучиться или позаниматься исследовательской деятельностью от одного семестра до одного академического года. Как и в других случаях, представитель Freie Universität Berlin в Москве всегда поможет в поиске финансирования и подготовке документов на подачу на стипендиальную порграмму чтобы попасть в Берлин.
